With 1,200 employees, Boxmeer is the main branch of Marel (4,000 employees worldwide; turn-over approximately 1 billion EUR). In 2008, the business was acquired by the Icelandic company Marel. Marel is active in roughly 150 countries. Marel production units can be found in several countries. Marel has sales teams, service departments, production facilities, engineering and R&D teams in 30 countries, but these teams are managed from Boxmeer.

Nutreco has its roots in Boxmeer. Its first company name was Hendrix’ Voeders, after its founder Wim de Körver. Decades and several takeovers later, the company Nutreco now has roughly 12,000 employees worldwide, 100 manufacturing sites in 35 countries and generates an annual turnover of over 5 billion EUR. Although nine out of ten employees are active outside the Netherlands, the Boxmeer site plays a key role with 250 employees engaged in research and communication and marketing.
