"The Smartest Region
in the World"

Strong Focus on Science

The Brabant eco-system in Animal Health is more alive than ever before. Digital interconnectedness may in some ways turn the world into a global village, entrepreneurs still look for locations where knowledge and skills physically meet, where initiatives merge and industry-related companies can find one another. The old method of cross-pollination is still doing its job!

In Brabant for example the many research facilities (often established on farms) in the area are invaluable to the multinationals MSD Animal Health (veterinary products), Hendrix Genetics (animal breeding) and Nutreco (animal feed), based in Boxmeer.

Add to that the many contacts and collaborations with, for example, the world-famous Agricultural University of Wageningen and the very industry-driven HAS University of Applied Science with its specific focus on Agriculture and the Food sector, and it is easy to understand why these companies have no desire to exchange this biotope for a place a anywhere else in the world.

Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e)

Established in the 1950’s, Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e) has always had strong values: optimism, collaboration and a dedication to society. These values helped Brainport Region Eindhoven flourish, and resulted in the university being ranked number 1 by Times Higher Education Ranking for collaboration with industry. 15% of our scientific publications are created in collaboration with industry, and we have the highest number of part-time professors from industry in the Netherlands.

Today TU/e has 11,000 students and 2,000 fte research staff. The strategic research areas of TU/e are Health, Energy and Smart Mobility. Its main research centers are TU/e High Tech Systems Center, TU/e Data Science Center, the Institute for Complex Molecular Systems and the Institute for Photonic Integration. The inclusion of high tech systems (visualization; monitoring; sensoring; robotics) in the AgriFood and Animal Health sectors is rising explosively.

HAS University of Applied Sciences

HAS University of Applied Sciences specializes in education in the areas of food, animals, agriculture, agribusiness, nature and environment. HAS approximately 3,000 students. In 2017 HAS was awarded the title the best educational and expertise Centre in the Southern Netherlands for the AgriFood and environmental sectors.

Jheronimus Academy of Data Science (JADS)

The Jheronimus Academy of Data Science (JADS) is a unique concept in the Netherlands. At three different locations (TU Eindhoven, Tilburg University and Mariënburg Campus) Data Science can be studied, researched and applied through bachelor and graduate programs, PDEng education, Data Science Centers and incorporated into existing ecosystems.

Data Science Center Den Bosch (DSC/d) is set up as a research and innovation center. It entails the fundamental question on how to create societal and economic value with data, and how to translate this into direct innovation for businesses. In the applied labs, research is focused on how data science can be used in specific industries. One of these labs is focused on Data & Agro, another on Data & Health.

Wageningen University

‘To explore the potential of nature to improve the quality of life’ is the mission of Wageningen University & Research. Utrecht University Faculty of Veterinary Medicine

The School of Veterinary Medicine at Utrecht, as a part of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at Utrecht University, is the only place in the Netherlands where veterinarians are trained.
